“Follow your passion. It will lead to your purpose.” – Oprah Winfrey
There’s an ageless expression of ‘love what you do and you’ll never work a day in your life’, and although yeah – it’s little corny – it also couldn’t be more true.
My word of advice is find what you love, what lights your soul on fire, and then pursue that as a career. Believe in yourself. Take risks and be prepared to fail but learn from your failures and grow through them. Don’t take your failures personally. There’s a whole world outside your comfort zone and believe me, it’s a beautiful one.
If you’d have told me 10 years ago that I would be freelance working for a sailing company and a fashion label as I travel around Australia and internationally – teaching yoga along the way – there’s no way I would have believed you. I wanted to be a wife and Mum by 24 – oh how things have changed!
I’m now 27 with multiple places I call home, no partner, and no plans to ‘settle down’ any time soon. It’s just me and my rescue dog, Grace, driving around Aus and visiting people along the way. And that’s more than okay. It’s a regular occurrence for me to receive a message saying ‘okay, where do you actually live?! I swear you’ve been in 3 states in the last 2 weeks’ – which is entirely true, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. If I don’t like something about my life, I change it. If I feel I’m being complacent and not working towards my dreams, I shift my focus (and often my home).
I believe more women should feel comfortable chasing the life they want and defying societies norms, rather than settling for the life they think they should have. When you follow your passion, the opportunities that open to you truly become endless.
It will be challenging at times, there will be set backs, but it will be so worth the view from the top of the mountain.
I want to thank a few beautiful women in my life that helped shaped me to the woman I’m proud to be:
My amazing Mum – for teaching me from the beginning that sky really is the limit.
My ‘second mum’ Dal for her ongoing support, love and belief in me.
My beautiful best friends (you know who you are) for being a voice of reason, my supportive hype crew, fellow comedians and for their unconditional love.
And my incredibly talented friend and boss Lauren, owner of Her Pony the Label, for taking a chance on me and opening me up to a new world of possibilities.
Go chase those dreams beautiful women, be proud of the person you are and grateful for the women who have been fighting for gender equality for hundreds of years – we owe a lot to them.
Finally, have an unwavering belief that you will achieve anything you put your mind to.
Because you will.
Let’s keep supporting each other, and pushing one an other to be the best we can be. Today, and every day.
